European Commission Mission Ocean Conference was held!

European Commission Mission Ocean Conference, being highly substantial for the future of our seas and oceans, was held between 13-14 June 2022 in Marseille with the involvement of youth as the symbol of the Mediterranean Lighthouse.

The event has concentrated on Horizon Europe Mission “Restore our Ocean and Waters by 2030” and the actions to accelerate the transition to zero pollution in the Mediterranean Sea. The event also outlined the process of co-creation of the Mission Charter, discussing how to get involved in the Mission, particularly by strengthening interaction with stakeholders and youth.

On the first day of the event, on behalf of Black Sea Young Ambassadors, Selma Menabit, BSYA from Romania, pledged to connect the Black Sea to all seas in the spirit of Mission Ocean. On 14 June, it continued with a kick-start meeting on how to engage with the Mission “Restore our Ocean and Waters by 2030”.

Romanian Black Sea Young Ambassador Selma Menabit shared the vision and awareness-raising activities of the Black Sea Youth and stated the importance of the Mission:

“We engaged with the Youth of European Seas. We learn from each other as we are all connected to the Global Ocean and our action needs to be aligned, replicated, and coordinated. We all need to act together before it’s too late and Mission Ocean provides a great framework for that.”
