Sustainability in the Black Sea Regional Cooperation: Advancing the Black Sea Synergy and the European Green Deal

Black Sea CONNECT was featured at Black Sea Green Diplomacy Event: ”Sustainability in the Black Sea Regional Cooperation: Advancing the Black Sea Synergy and the European Green Deal” that took place with a great turnout! Important discussions on cooperation with complementary projects, synergies with the regional actors, and more were held as a part of the #Sustainable #BlueEconomy session.

Co-organized by the European External Action Service and European Commission, the online event brought together panelists from academia, civil society, business & diplomacy to discuss the current environmental challenges & sustainable development in the Black Sea region.

Black Sea CONNECT Co-coordinator Mustafa Yucel has presented the CSA in relation to Green Deal Objectives and impact of COVID-19 in the thematic session dedicated to the Sustainable Blue Economy. In the same section, 3 other Black Sea projects were represented:

  • Facility for Blue Growth in the Black Sea , Mr. Frédérick Herpers, Team leader of the Black Sea Assistance Mechanism, Stratégies Mer et Littoral, France;
  • Black Sea CONNECT. Mr. Mustafa Yücel, Associate Professor and Vice Director Institute of Marine Sciences, Middle East Technical University, Turkey;
  • Tourism 4.0 for the Black Sea (T4BS). Ms. Urska Starc Peceny, Chief Innovation Officer and Lead of Tourism 4.0 Department at Arctur, Slovenia, and Mr. Mamuka Berdzenishvili, Tourism Institute, Georgia;
  • Ponto Caspian Rise and Demise (PRIDE). Mr. Frank Wesselingh, Senior Researcher Marine Biodiversity of Naturalis Biodiversity Center, Leiden, the Netherlands.
