Black Sea CONNECT was featured at the International Conference addressing Türkiye’s Contributions to the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development

On September 26, 2023, the Middle East Technical University (METU) Ankara Campus played host to a significant International Conference, which focused on Türkiye’s contributions to the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development. This event was orchestrated by the METU Institute of Marine Sciences, the Black Sea CONNECT coordinating institute, in collaboration with the Office of Navigation, Hydrography, and Oceanography (ONHO).

During the poster session at the conference, key actions of Black Sea CONNECT, such as the Marine Litter Action Forum, Innovation Workshop, National Consultations, and the Black Sea Young Ambassadors Programme, were showcased through posters. Details regarding the Black Sea Youth Ambassadors were also provided through a presentation by the project’s Communication Manager, Ezgi Şahin.

Furthermore, in his presentation, Black Sea CONNECT Project Co-Coordinator Mustafa Yücel emphasized the key role of Black Sea SRIA and its Implementation Plan in fostering the co-development of research and innovation needed for a sustainable blue economy.

In conclusion, the International Conference at METU Ankara Campus underscored Türkiye’s commitment to advancing sustainable ocean science and highlighted the essential contributions of Black Sea CONNECT in this endeavor.
